The leadership team is happy to announce a new project named Technovation under the education pillar that aims to enroll girls aged 10-18 to a 12-week technovation challenge under a global program called Technovation https://www.technovation.org/.

Technovation is a global tech education nonprofit that empowers girls and families to become learners, creators and problem-solvers. In Kenya, Technovation has a partnership with Safaricom PLC where champions from Safaricom Women In Technology(WIT) help coordinate technovation activities across different regions in Kenya. It is through these connections that Nairobi Hub intends to enroll 16 girls from 5 schools in Kibera to the program.

This is an intense but very easy 12-weeks program that will see the girls identify a problem in their community, create a problem statement, develop a mobile application to address the problem, create a business plan and finally a pitch video for submission to the global competition in April. Safaricom team launched the beginning of the season on 16th January which Cleophas and some of the girls attended virtually.

As a hub, our role will be to ensure that the girls get a safe place to attend the 2 hour weekly session every Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm and guide them through the 12 modules.

The Global Shapers Community is a global network of over 400 city-based hubs including Nairobi Hub, Kisumu Hub and the first Hub located in a refugee camp, Kakuma Hub, all located in Kenya
